چکیده

Introduction Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a non-invasive and portable lung imaging technique for dynamic evaluation of lung volume distribution. Previous studies had proved the EIT can provide information on regional distribution of ventilation and changes in end-expiratory lung volume (△EELV). The effect of EIT application in ventilation distribution of prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) patients underwent weaning program is unknown.

Electrical impedance tomography for predicting failure of spontaneous breathing trials in patients with prolonged weaning

BACKGROUND Spontaneous breathing trials (SBTs) on a T-piece can be difficult in patients with prolonged weaning because of remaining de-recruitment phenomena and/or insufficient ventilation. There is no clinically established method existent other than experience for estimating whether an SBT is most probably beneficial. Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a clinical useful online monitori...

Initiation of the Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist Mode in the Neonatal Period in Iran

Abstract: The new neonatal ventilation methods have been developed along with utilization of new technological tools. This device is synchronized with the patient’s respiratory efforts. The ideal synchronized breath needs to be synchronous with initiation, size, and termination of the breath without delay in detecting of initial resiratory effort by device .The synchrony of respiration contribut...

Effects of neurally adjusted ventilatory assist on air distribution and dead space in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

BACKGROUND Neurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA) could improve patient-ventilator interaction; its effects on ventilation distribution and dead space are still unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of varying levels of assist during NAVA and pressure support ventilation (PSV) on ventilation distribution and dead space in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obs...

PEEP titration guided by ventilation homogeneity: a feasibility study using electrical impedance tomography

INTRODUCTION Lung protective ventilation requires low tidal volume and suitable positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP). To date, few methods have been accepted for clinical use to set the appropriate PEEP. The aim of this study was to test the feasibility of PEEP titration guided by ventilation homogeneity using the global inhomogeneity (GI) index based on electrical impedance tomography (EIT)...

A randomized clinical trial of neurally adjusted ventilatory assist versus conventional weaning mode in patients with COPD and prolonged mechanical ventilation

BACKGROUND Patient-ventilator asynchrony is a common problem in mechanically ventilated patients; the problem is especially obvious in COPD. Neutrally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA) can improve patient-ventilator asynchrony; however, the effect in COPD patients with prolonged mechanical ventilation is still unknown. The goals of this study are to evaluate the effect of NAVA and conventional...
